Aftercare

What to do next....

Traditional Aftercare:

You have just had your new tattoo, sat the pain, spent the money and you want it to look good, so take good care of it!.

It is very important that you follow these guidelines.

Do not walk out of the studio and take off the covering! Your artist took the care to cover up your new tattoo for a good reason - to keep airborne bacteria from invading your wound. As pretty as your new tattoo is, it is still a wound.

Leave the covering on for at least two hours. After this time gently wash your tattoo with warm water and mild unscented liquid antibacterial or antimicrobial soap to completely clean the area. Use your clean hands to gently rub the tattoo, removing all blood, plasma, or excess ink. This will help to prevent the tattoo from scabbing. Do not use any type of sponge etc to clean the tattoo, as these harbour bacteria.

Pat the area dry with a CLEAN towel or paper towel. Allow to dry and settle for a few hours then follow with a light application of your chosen aftercare*, re-apply when ever you think is necessary.

Keep this going for 3 to 4 weeks!

Do not to leave the tattoo too dry, especially for long periods.

During the healing process you may get some scabbing and/or skin peeling, this is natural but you must resist the temptation, don’t pick, and don’t scratch! Your tattoo is almost healed and now is not the time to ruin it!

You should avoid swimming pools, the sea, or even soaking in the bath. Two reasons for this; exposing your tattoo to too much water may draw ink out of your skin and damage the tattoos appearance. Secondly, the water in swimming pools, the sea and the bath may be carrying dirt, bacteria, chemicals and other impurities that could cause your tattoo to become infected.

If you are unsure at any time contact the studio.

Tattoo Film Aftercare:

This is new type of aftercare for your tattoo. A layer of film will be applied to your tattoo when your session has finished. Leave this first layer on for 24 hours. After this time remove the film, wash you tattoo, as stated above do not use anything too scented or flavoured. Leave your tattoo to air dry naturally, this won't take long. Once it has dried reapply the next piece of film given to you by your tattooist. Leave this piece on for 4-5 days. After this time remove the film (easiest in the shower) then treat your tattoo like normal applying recommended aftercare or coco butter moisturiser or similar.

If you are unsure at any time contact the studio.
